Michigan Society of Professional Engineers Southeastern Chapter

This year, the Chapter hosted the MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition at the Woodhaven Community Center again this year on February 20, which had actually been rescheduled twice prior due to inclement weather. Ten (10) schools and a total of 70 students participated, which is down from pre-pandemic numbers but continues relative stability since 2022, as nearly all long-term schools continue to participate. A total of eight (8) chapter members assisted with the competition, along with three (3) non-members. Patrick M. Lewis, P.E., Chapter Coordinator, also served as emcee for the Southeastern Chapter competition, and assisted in this role for the Oakland Chapter competition Countdown Round as well. The winning teams were Bedford Junior High School of Temperance, coached by David Majewski, and Shumate Middle School of Gibraltar, coached by Matthew Hoover and Jade Shanks. These teams and three (3) other at-large individuals represented the Chapter at the State competition at Oakland University on March 8. Chapter member Patrick M. Lewis, P.E. emceed the testing rooms and Countdown Round and member Martha F. Thompson, P.E., F.NSPE, F.MSPE coordinated data entry at the state competition.
